LA Fitness Reviews

LA Fitness is a fitness chain that was started as a single club in 1984 in California. It has grown in popularity, and today the company operates almost 700 clubs in the United States and Canada. The company goal has always been to support the overall health and fitness of all members. To achieve this, each LA Fitness club conducts a variety of classes to meet the fitness and intensity level of each member. There are also cardio and strength machines, sports’ courts, pools and saunas. This article will provide a summary of LA Fitness reviews. We will be focusing on amenities, costs, locations, cleanliness, and customer service.

As you can see from one LA Fitness Reviews & Complaints site, location is a category that was rated highly. Most members appreciated the fact that there was a club convenient to either their home or work. The company does get points off because the largest concentrations are located in only four United States rather than being equally spread across the country. There are also about a dozen clubs in Canada.

Membership Costs & Fees

There are very few complaints about the cost of membership. LA Fitness members are satisfied with the monthly dues, which are about average for the industry. The negative comments center around the fact that there is a $99 initiation fee and that you need to pay an additional fee if you want to bring guests. There are occasional deals or coupons for new members that will waive or reduce the initiation fee.

Cleanliness & Maintenance

The rating for this category seems to totally depend on the specific location. Comments for the older smaller clubs noted unclean facilities and broken equipment, while those concerning newer clubs mention an adequate number of machines and a clean, comfortable environment. In the clubs that are overcrowded, certain areas like weight training were messy and not clean.
Rating: 3/5

Lockers & Showers

There seem to be no complaints about locker or shower facilities at LA Fitness. They are clean and well-maintained. There is a regular crew assigned around the clock to be sure that these areas are cleaned and well stocked. Members seem to be pleased with the little extras like soap, shampoo, and conditioner.

Extra Amenities

The use of the basketball court is included with a membership but, at some clubs, there is a small fee to reserve racquetball/squash courts. There is also a fee if you wish to join one of the sport’s leagues but this seems to be standard. The use of pools, saunas, and whirlpools are all included in the membership cost. There is also a fee for individual personal training but members who used this service felt they got their money’s worth.

Customer Service

This is the area in which LA Fitness does not fair well. From complaints about the rudeness of the staff, to issues with cancellation, the theme was consistent. Members were upset that staff did not seem to listen or be willing to try to solve their problems. There were difficulties with the cancellation process even when the member followed all the steps as outlined. There were some positive comments, but the results in this area were overwhelmingly negative.

LA Fitness Verdict

Though LA Fitness was rated high in some categories, there were too many negative LA Fitness reviews related to essential areas like cleanliness, fees, and customer service. Though these complaints seem to center around some of the smaller, older clubs, they impact the reputation of the entire company. For this reason, the overall rating is 3/5. The bottom line is that, if you are considering LA Fitness, you need to use the trial guest pass to check out a few clubs before making your decision.
